Today, we proudly present and release 18 musical gems by Giorgos Mitsakis in honor of our great master. This collection is titled after his legendary song "Opou Giorgos kai Malama" and serves as a tribute to Mitsakis’ unparalleled contribution to Greek music.

These songs are part of the theatrical production "Opou Giorgos kai Malama", created and produced by the musical ensemble "Parapetamenoi." The play will be staged at the Dielefsis Theatre starting in November 2024, coinciding with the reissue of the book "Giorgos Mitsakis – Autobiography" (1995) by Nikos Oikonomou. The script remains faithful to Mitsakis' own writings, ensuring historical accuracy and authenticity.

The theatrical performance is dedicated to Nikos Oikonomou and Athina Mitsaki.

Who are "Parapetamenoi"?
For years, "Parapetamenoi" have been researching and preserving the roots of Greek music. Their live performances are conducted without microphones, and their recordings are done in the traditional "one-take" style—with all musicians playing together, just as it was done in the past.

Staying true to Protasis Music's philosophy of producing works with personality, history, and archival value, we take great pride in presenting a project that stays true to the essence of Greek musical heritage.

Featuring bouzouki virtuoso Spyros Goumas, known for his collaborations with some of Greece’s biggest music legends, alongside exceptional musicians and vocalists under the coordination of musician and researcher Giorgos Makris, "Parapetamenoi" are opening a new chapter in contemporary rebetiko music. Their approach brings back the past while keeping the raw, unfiltered, and intimate sound of rebetiko alive.

About "Parapetamenoi"
Founded in 1999, "Parapetamenoi" have been dedicated to the preservation and study of rebetiko music, analyzing the social and political factors that shaped this unique Greek urban folk genre.

The ensemble consists of:

Sofia Kontaratou – Vocals, percussion
Dimitris Goumas – Guitar, vocals

Their goal is to reproduce original rebetiko performances, staying true to the style and ethos of the genre’s legendary creators. Whether in live concerts or studio recordings, they emphasize the spirit of authentic rebetiko gatherings.
