Thodoris Kotonias - Stormy Sea. A song by Yiannis Kalomiris. New release.
Continuing our creative journey within the high-quality atmosphere of Protasis Music releases, we are pleased to present to the audience of Athens and beyond, composer, lyricist, and distinguished musician Giannis Kalomiris, who lives and creates in Crete, through a song that deserves to be heard and recognized.
“Fourtouniasmeni Thalassa” (Stormy Sea) is the title, marked by the exceptional performance of Thodoris Kotonia.
A song with strong influences from Cretan tradition, with contemporary musical expression, sensitivity, lyricism, rhythm, and melody that take the listener on a journey.
The creator himself describes the song as follows:
“Returning to the city from a visit to a friend, a few years ago, east of Heraklion in Crete, I decided to take the old national road. A large part of the journey runs next to the sea. There was a great storm, and the waves reached high.
An imposing sight! By the time I arrived back, I had ‘written’ the “Stormy Sea.”
Music and lyrics. Later, I completed the orchestration and selected the instruments I wanted to play.
It was recorded live (all instruments together). Finally, the exceptional Thodoris Kotonia added his sensitive and emotional performance to the song. And so, “Stormy Sea” now sails toward the unknown. It comes from the past, an unknown time, passes into the present, and aims for a tomorrow where life and beauty, storms with moments of calm, will have love as a companion and guide. With fellow travelers those who it manages to touch, those who discover it, each in their own way.”

Biography
Giannis Kalomiris was born in Anogeia, Crete, and lives and works as a dentist in Heraklion. At the same time, he is a musician, composer, and lyricist. He plays the lute, bouzouki, mandolin, and three-string bouzouki.
He seeks the powerful and pure archetype that makes some musicians pure conduits of music across the ages.
In his lyrics, he works with forms and expressions that can place traditional and folk writing so that it stands equally next to high poetic language without being absorbed by it. He also writes poetry, and his first collection, titled "Anasa", will be published soon.
His musical creations—songs—are based on three axes:
Traditional Cretan music, broader traditional music of the Eastern Mediterranean, and modern Greek folk and "entechno" music and songs.
In 2021, he released an album titled "Antamosi", with his own music and lyrics, and in 2022, three singles: “Chasapiko tis Ano Polis” (an instrumental chasapiko), "Patrida mou einai ta poulia” (sung by Nikos Venetakis), and "Stis zoi mou to taxidi" (sung by Vasilis Stavrakakis).
The album "ANTAMOSI" is a collection of 24 new creations—Cretan traditional songs—and collaborations with: Psarantonis, Psaroyiorgis, G. Manolakis, K. Abissinos, and V. Stavrakakis.
In 2022, he presented live a collection of 15 unreleased new entechno Greek songs titled: "Oti 'nei ekeinon pou tha meinei, ein' i kardia pou tha to krinei"
In 2023, he presented for the first time at the “M. Hadjidakis” Garden Theater in Heraklion a new unreleased collection of his songs titled: “Gia ena Aspalatho”. It includes 15 new traditional and urban folk songs. This album will be released in 2025.
Singers: K. Abissinos, G. Kassotakis, and I. Kalogeraki.
